High-risk Situations

We recommend you read through the information on the following risk factors and incorporate them into a Vehicle Access Agreement.

Legal driving situations that increase crash risk include:

  • Driving with peer passengers.
  • Driving at night.
  • Being distracted (mobile phones, CD and MP3 players, etc).
  • Driving in poor weather conditions.
  • Driving on high-speed roads, and rural roads.
  • Driving when tired.

Illegal behaviours that newly qualified drivers should never engage in include:

  • Driving impaired by alcohol and/or drugs.
  • Driving recklessly (speeding, tailgating).
  • Driving while using a mobile phone.
