Crash Risk Facts For Newly Qualified Drivers

  • Newly qualified drivers are estimated to be 33 times more likely to have a crash than learner drivers.
  • The risk of newly qualified drivers having a crash decreases over the first 6 to 12 months.

This evidence suggests that the age of a driver is a less significant factor in collisions involving new drivers than the amount of driving experience, and drivers of all ages are particularly at risk during the six months after passing the test.
